Think Local, Act Global: Perspectives from Scotland
The UK Diaspora’s work in International Development (ID) and the positive impact it has remains, to a large extent, unrecognised. This short film probes into the significance of ID activities of the Diaspora in Scotland. It gives an insight into what small organisations and individuals are doing in relation to development and alleviation of poverty in their home countries. It highlights some of the significant obstacles they face in delivering their objectives and the support they feel they need in order to succeed in their mission. Amongst other things, the film demonstrates that many of these small organisations do have the relevant skills and local knowledge of the areas they work in overseas and are achieving their goals successfully by directing their efforts in those places; often these are places difficult to reach by larger International NGOs.
